Introduction to Video Evidence for Investigators

The course is a mixture of lectures and hands-on with practical or simulated cases using Amped Replay. We will focus on implementing a firm legal process for using and reporting on image and video evidence in daily investigations. This course has the purpose to provide students with the theory and the basics of image processing, understand the issues affecting images and videos in an investigative context and deliver in-depth knowledge of all software features to solve those issues, including the technical and scientific background behind the implemented techniques.

Who is this for?
For investigators, frontline officers, first responders, security personnel and CCTV operators who work with video evidence in their investigations.

Learning objectives:

  • understand the basics of image and video analysis
  • convert proprietary video files
  • apply basic corrections to images
  • prepare the evidence for presentations with redactions and annotations
  • recognize what are the challenges and pitfalls faced when using digital multimedia evidence for investigations
  • properly examine and process image and video evidence backed with a workflow that is forensically sound and courtroom admissible
  • take the proper steps to obtain better results, working also on real cases and learn to testify on the results.
