Simplifying cyber resilience: Tanium’s one-agent approach for blue light IT
With NHS-proven solutions and integrations with Microsoft and ServiceNow, Tanium offers emergency services a single platform for visibility, patching, compliance, and security, cutting complexity while boosting resilience.
In the run-up to The Emergency Tech Show, Tanium shared with us how their real-time autonomous endpoint management is helping blue light organisations tackle complexity and risk head-on.
1. Can you introduce Tanium and how your platform helps public sector organisations manage cyber risk and IT operations?
Tanium is a real-time autonomous endpoint visibility and management platform. We help our customers get a handle on their IT hygiene, compliance and security and we have vertical aligned solutions such as NHS CyberAlerts reporting, which, as well as doing more with less, allow teams to meet challenges such as Cyber Essentials+.
All organisations, be they public or private sector, are under tremendous cost and efficiency challenges. Using Tanium allows organisations to autonomously manage their IT estates, while maintaining control, allowing teams to free up resources to focus on important issues whilst not neglecting the important day-to-day tasks that must be completed.
2. You specialise in real-time endpoint visibility and control – what kind of challenges does that help solve for emergency services?
We’re helping customers get a grip on their first-and third-party patching, get their Windows 11 upgrades done, adopt EntraID & associated services, all at scale and without needing to floor walk – allowing deployments to be accelerated, security posture to be greatly improved and enable organisations to move to modern workplace technologies.
3. You’ve worked with major public sector bodies like the NHS – what can the emergency services learn from those experiences?
Simplifying their technology stack has really helped – Tanium brings a breadth of capabilities within a single agent, which obviously has cost advantages, but also gives operations, compliance and security teams a single place to go. Tanium’s ability to deliver consistent real-time data, again saves time, confusion and cost.
The NHS and other public organisations have central purchasing and license agreements available to them. By adopting the products within these agreements, they can save money as well as standardise deployments in line with defined standards.
4. Cyber security and compliance are growing priorities across the frontline – how does your platform help teams stay secure and resilient?
Visibility and understanding your estate is the key to everything – without that you’re flying blind. Using the Tanium agent, we can accurately and quickly report on configuration compliance, missing patches for operating systems and applications. We can then enforce policies and automatically update applications and operating systems in staged rings, taking endpoint impact into account. Tanium has advanced speed and scale capabilities – when you’re tackling an issue, Tanium gives you the data you need immediately.
5. What will you be showcasing at The Emergency Tech Show and who should come and speak to you?
We’re showing our agent capabilities, and our core platform and solutions. We solve operations, security, compliance and reporting needs – so if any of those are your responsibility in IT, come and see what we can do. In addition, you will find Tanium integrates with Microsoft, ServiceNow and others so we can help you maximise your investments in those platforms too.
6. You’re introducing autonomous endpoint management with AI – how is that helping emergency services do more with leaner teams?
Our AEM capabilities help organisations make smart, informed decisions using real-time data. That means your teams can set the rules for progression and then get on with something else — no more worrying about Patch Tuesday or keeping browsers up to date. When we start a trial with a new client, we often discover not just a large number of devices that aren’t being patched, but also devices that no one even knew existed. By introducing automation, you not only uncover these devices, but you can also take control of them quickly — reducing both risk and workload at the same time.
