About the Emergency Response Drone Pilot Award

The Emergency Response Drone Pilot Award is a five-day course that combines EEI's expertise in Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS)/Drones with RLSS UK's world-renowned lifeguard and water safety training.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approved course covers:

  • how to navigate the rules and regulations of formal drone flying in the UK
  • practical flying skills required to ensure competency and accuracy when flying a drone
  • equipment and knowledge needed to undertake life-preserving actions that allow more time for a rescue to take place

The course is for organisations or groups that perform rescues - especially near water - and landowners or operators with responsibilities for the health and safety of visitors at sites where water is present.

At the end of the course, candidates receive three certificates: two drone flying qualifications: - a CAA A2 Certificate of Competency (A2 C of C) and a General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVA) -plus RLSS UK Emergency Response Drone Pilot Award.

Prerequisites

No formal lifesaving skills are needed to attend this course, but candidates must be 16+ years old. A drone specially designed for water-based rescues and all the safety equipment you require for the drone course will be available via the RLSS UK Shop.

Delivery method

The Emergency Response Drone Pilot Award is delivered at a venue suitable to all, in person, via interactive sessions and knowledge-based learning in a classroom setting and hands-on practical flying tuition.

Candidates use workbooks containing key syllabus information to complete tasks and activities and make notes/actions to help them pass the initial assessment required to move on to the flying phase.

For more information, email info@rlss.org.uk or call us on 0300 323 0096.

Assessment method

Candidates will complete a classroom-based assessment at the end of the theory sessions and a  skills test after the flying phase; that demonstrates competence in dropping the rescue aid with precision.

Cost

The course costs £699 (excl. VAT) and £838.80 (inc. VAT) per candidate.

Discounts are available for larger groups.

Testimonials

Don't just take our word for it...

“A thoroughly engaging course which provides a strong theoretical foundation in flight and drone operation. The theory is then applied to the practicalities of operating a drone safely in support of a timely and effective response that can be adapted to a variety of situations.â€'
